Haptic ARtist

Imagine you were an artist, and create your artwork in a real world.

 

Haptic ARtist is UX R&D project at Immersion to demonstrate haptics value in AR environment. This project is a combination of hardware/software engineering and UX design.

 

We created a ring-shaped haptic actuator that provides touch sensation onto your fingertip. The ring is made of smart material that transforms its shape based on input signals. Unlike typical vibrotactile actuators commonly used in smartphones, our ring provides organic, natural sensation with finger interactions thanks to Dynamic Haptic Engine that generates signals based on user's realtime gestures such as drawing, picking up a paint, mixing colors, etc.

The artwork is shared with the other people through smartphones in real time. The audience can see the artist's drawing, and also they can feel the same haptic sensation on the phone.

I was responsible for project management, the entire concept design and creative direction, interaction, visual, animation, integration of motion tracking system. Also I developed some of key software components in Unity/C#.
